About Us

Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a nonprofit dedicated to supporting students ages 5-18 experiencing housing instability in New York City through social-emotional learning, mentorship, and academic support. As part of our mission, we’ve launched Thread & Promise, a socially responsible fashion initiative that merges creativity, sustainability, and storytelling to empower youth and communities.

The Role

We are looking for a passionate Fashion Designer to help shape Thread & Promise's collections. This role is ideal for someone who believes fashion can be both beautiful and socially impactful-bringing together design, sustainability, and community storytelling.

Key Responsibilities

• Design garments and accessories aligned with Promise & Thread’s mission and seasonal vision
• Collaborate with the team on creative direction, design concepts, and prototypes
• Develop sketches, technical drawings, and mood boards for upcoming collections
• Explore sustainable materials, ethical production methods, and zero-waste design approaches
• Work with student interns and volunteers to mentor and inspire emerging talent
• Support photoshoots, campaigns, and storytelling initiatives that highlight the collection’s purpose
  
  

Qualifications

• Background or strong interest in fashion design, textile arts, or garment construction
• Proficiency in sketching (hand or digital) and familiarity with design software (Adobe Illustrator, CLO3D, etc.) a plus
• Passion for sustainable and ethical fashion practices
• Creative, collaborative, and detail-oriented mindset
• Ability to dedicate 5-10 hours per week
• Portfolio or sample designs preferred (students and emerging designers encouraged to apply)
