SUMMARY

The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Analyst will leverage GIS to creatively problem solve, conduct analysis, and produce exceptional maps and web mapping applications in support of the development of utility-scale wind, solar, battery energy and other renewable power generation projects as needed. The GIS Analyst will be engaged in supporting all aspects of project development, including but not limited to, site identification, due diligence review, grid interconnection, permitting, and engineering. Daily tasks in this role focus on the preparation of spatial analysis and cartographic products related to lease management and land administration, permitting activities, the siting of equipment and infrastructure on projects, and the overall visualization of projects to support siting, design, optimization, financing, construction, and operation of renewable energy projects.

Location: Terra-Gen is headquartered in New York City and has a development office in San Diego. The position is remote with occasional travel to project sites or offices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned as needed)

  • Support wind, solar, battery energy storage, and digital infrastructure project development through spatial data management, analysis, and cartography.
  • Conduct site suitability analysis.
  • Maintain, and support custom Web Mapping Applications, Dashboards and mobile tools.
  • Source and manage spatial data.
  • Maintain and manage project specific spatial data.
  • Support interoperability between GIS and AutoCAD, Google Earth, and other specialized software / data services.
  • Conduct land, regulatory, and related research.
  • Provide cartographic and data visualization support for development, permitting, and project design teams
  • Ensure proper coordinate systems and transformations are applied and documented for spatial data.
  • Ensure data integrity.
  • Map land records including parcels, easements, and other proposed or documented boundaries.
  • Assist with quality assurance and data improvement
  • Attend project and team meetings and some site visits.
  • Work with internal teams and perform additional duties to assist in project development and land acquisition as required.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferred major in geography, information systems, information technology, land planning, science, natural resources, environmental sciences, or related field).
  • 2-5 years of professional experience in GIS analysis, preferably within the renewable energy or environmental sectors.
  • Required experience of at least five years using the Esri GIS platform (both Pro and Online).
  • Preferred experience in utility scale renewable development mapping.
  • A strong understanding of land records (including parcels, lots, and easements) and legal descriptions including metes and bounds and Public Land Survey System (PLSS), is preferred.
  • Experience reading ALTA surveys, grading, and construction plans, one-line diagrams, and schematics preferred.
  • Experience working with CAD data in the GIS environment preferred.
  • High proficiency in communication, written, oral, and cartographically – the ability to convey spatial information to non-GIS user is essential.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot problems and find solutions independently. Critical thinking and creative ingenuity are essential.
  • Must have initiative, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work efficiently and effectively alone or with a team.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining attention to detail
  • Confidence and ability to interact with people at all levels of the organization.

  • Must be willing to travel as required. Must possess valid driver's license or have the ability to obtain one.

  • Communicate with vendors about the performance of their products.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions; procedure manuals; prints and engineering data; interpret charts, graphs, and gauge scales; troubleshoot equipment and system problems; and interface with others.
  • Have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing, use a radio, and be able to speak effectively before groups of people.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization may exist. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, design or electrical drawing, or schedule form.

The posted compensation is the range that we in good faith anticipate relying on when setting wages for this position. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California. This salary range may also be modified in the future, depending upon skills, experience, education, and geographical location.
